Pi Sigma Alpha

Another fantastic year at George Washington University!

2024 National Student Research Conference

Over Presidents’ Day Weekend, Pi Sigma Alpha welcomed over 470 attendees in person at George Washington University in Washington, DC and virtually for the 11th Annual National Student Research Conference. Undergraduate presenters, graduate student discussants, and faculty chairs came from 130 colleges and universities across the country.

The event kicked off with a Career Reception on Friday evening. Participants had the opportunity to connect with professionals in various fields to learn more about career paths for political science majors.

Saturday and early Sunday featured 217 research presentations across 53 panels by Pi Sigma Alpha undergraduate student members from across the United States. For the first time at this event, Master’s students presented research during a graduate poster session. Several professional development panels were also held for students to learn about succeeding in graduate school, law school, and launching a career in politics.

This year’s keynote discussion, “Finding a Purpose-Driven Career in Political Science and Public Policy”, featured Dr. Menna Demessie, the Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the Taskforce for Meaningful Change at the Universal Music Group.

On Saturday evening, students had the opportunity to meet with representatives from over a dozen graduate programs in political science and public policy at the Graduate School Reception.

Since Pi Sigma Alpha introduced the National Student Research Conference in 2014, thousands of students have attended and presented their research. Presenters this year hailed from colleges and universities across 38 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Diverse institution types, from small liberal arts colleges to large research institutions, as well as a record number of designated Minority-Serving Institutions, were represented at the 2024 conference.  We look forward to next year’s event!
